The Little Regent

“A child cannot rule this village!” When her father dies, young Abioye becomes the regent of her West African people ... and the chiefs are not happy. Nervous in her new role, she turns to the memory of her father’s words for guidance. “Those who will rule must first learn to serve.” Following this advice, Abioye goes into the village to learn how to serve her people. When the chiefs complain that she is a bad ruler—always skipping meetings and wandering about the village like a commoner—they call for the kingmakers to choose a new king.
