Proverbs in most African languages are crisp, pithy and condensed means of saying much with few words. They are, of course, relevant to the custom, tradition, experience and way of life of the people. They are in a way idiomatic and at times diplomatic by tactfully saying what is hard; hitting without causing great offence.
