VACANCY: ASSOCIATE EDITOR – NARRATIVE LANDSCAPE PRESS

ABOUT THE ROLE

Narrative Landscape Press is a dynamic African publishing house dedicated to shaping powerful stories from the continent into world-class books. We are inviting applications for the role of Associate Editor. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with authors, strengthen editorial processes and contribute meaningfully to the growth of African literature. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assess manuscripts for quality, relevance and alignment with our publishing vision.
• Manage submission windows, assessments and recommendations for acquisition decisions.
• Ensure projects are properly managed for production.
• Maintain editorial calendars and production schedules, flagging delays promptly.
• Apply house style and quality standards consistently.
• Build strong, constructive relationships with authors and freelance editors.
• Coordinate with operations, design, and communications teams to keep projects on track.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Strong editorial judgement with excellent reading, writing and proofreading skills.
• Organisational ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Clear, professional communication and strong interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, dependable and solutions-oriented mindset.
• Competence with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and digital publishing tools.
• Knowledge of African literary cultures and sensitivity to diverse readerships.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A degree in English, Literature, Communications, Humanities, or related fields.
• 4–5 years of relevant editorial experience with manuscripts or long-form content.
• Demonstrable experience in proofreading, copyediting, manuscript assessment, or project coordination.
• Familiarity with book production workflows and publishing schedules is an advantage.
• A strong interest in African literature and developing books for local and international audiences.
