Binyavanga Wainaina
Binyavanga Wainaina was a Kenyan writer who won the Caine Prize for African Writing early in his career in 2002. His books, Discovering Home (2003) and One Day I Will Write about This Place (2011) were published to critical and popular acclaim. Later in his life, he became an influential champion of gay rights. In April 2014, Time magazine noted Wainaina in its annual Time 100 as one of the ‘Most Influential People in the World’. He died in 2019.
